We can’t believe we have launched for two weeks now, well in reality five years behind-the-scenes. We thank you for enthusiastically trying 3Fingers Surf Zinc and then thank you even more for enthusiastically raving about it. We have had many questions so are going to kick-off our blog posts with what will become a regular - What are the three top questions people have been asking us?

1. What is different between 3Fingers zinc and sunscreen? Zinc means the ingredients list contains the natural mineral zinc oxide. Zinc oxide has the highest UV absorption capacity in that it physically blocks both UVA (cancer causing) and UVB (skin burning) ultraviolet light because it sits on the surface of your skin. This is compared to most sunscreens whose ingredients absorb into your skin and have a chemical reaction with the UV light to ‘screen’ your body from the effects of the sun. Whilst you may be protected from the sun’s harmful rays whilst the sunscreen is not too deeply absorbed, the chemicals involved in this screening chemical reaction also degrade in sunlight. Cue cancer-causing free radicals. Which is an undesirable predicament because the whole purpose is to stop free radicals that the sun creates but the process of sunscreen produces substitutes. Plus who has time to wait 20mins from sunscreen application before sun exposure when the surf is pumping.

2. What is difference between 3Fingers Zinc and other zincs? - To avoid launching into a textbook response, we’ll start with one point-of-difference - it’s smooth consistency. This characteristic was a big priority because we dislike the feeling of a sandy texture on your face. And we especially dislike zincs that resist coming off your face with a wet-wipe scrub because it’s already clogged your pores. 3Fingers signature moisturising texture is courtesy of two key ingredients - mango butter and squalene. Squalene is used in many cosmetic products - that’s why wearing 3Fingers Zinc takes your appearance to above average. But the big differentiator is that our squalene is vegetable derived (an extract of olive oil)
